about
I'd have to consider this my very First major recording and mix, and also the longest project. The length of it is kind of in keeping with the effort, at 9 min. +. And the content went through a similarly difficult working over, the result being a hard-wrought effort surmounting both personal and technical difficulties. Ironically, that is also the inner subject of the song, so it's no wonder.
The weight is about the temptation to cash it in, and the siren voices that tell us that's a good answer. It's also about how we always need to come back to that voice that reminds us of who we are.
Thomas Murawski wrote the original lyrics for this, and was my "support" network behind the project, keeping me going . The song died a couple times, and during those times it was decided that his lyrics were not right for the music, nor my edit of them. I had added to his lyrics and it just wasn't gelling. So I rewrote the entire thing with the same idea in mind, and it was very much improved as far as compatibility of the lyrics with the style. It had nothing to do with the Quality of his lyrics. I still feel like those had actually a better "flow" to them overall. They are incredible, but his story is a different emphasis than my direction, simply put. His song is still his song, and I'm patiently waiting for him to re-write the song he undertook to start with. Thank you Thomas!
Remember who you are.
lyrics
The Weight
I’m waiting for the curtain to fall.
Too much feeling and thinking.
Don’t want to struggle with it at all
Too much effort to keep standing
Everything happens for a reason they say
But the weight of the world is having its way
Existence is heavy and the past won’t leave me alone
Weariness works up through my skin from my bones
My friends say I look fine
And snicker behind my back
I don’t think I’ll weather another
Passive aggressive attack
Fashion conscious
Hiding the sores
I don’t like the look behind their eyes
Anymore
Everything happens for a reason they say
But the weight of the world is having its way
Existence is heavy - the past is like a stone
Weariness works up from somewhere down in my bones
Piled high my creations
But who will see my work
Who will hear my symphony?
I get no returns
Though I knock on that door
Endless waves lapping on my
Island shore
Deluged with taxes - a Noah kind of rain
Up against the ropes that are put around me
Surrounded by liars punch drunk with pain
Filled up with opioids n lines of cocaine
Corporate ladders swimming upstream
Suits and mad hatters and living the dream
I’m Tired of living Tired of dying
These are a few of my least favorite things!
Stretch the rope
Tie the knot
Stand on the chair and stare Into the distance
Remember who you are!
Remember.......
Stretch the rope
Tie the knot
Stand on the chair and stare Into the distance
Remember who you are!
Remember.......
How you got up there
Bring yourself down here
Step into the water
You can live again
So gently come down
And swear
And take up your weight and walk with me
Even though You’re Tired
I’ll walk with you
You’ll walk
Alright then…let’s go.
When you get through this place it's just a reception room.
You pull your hat off and hang your coat up in the lobby.
